Early this month, Studebaker Electric, Inc. of Loomis began site work for the installation of a traffic signal at the intersection of State Route 32 (SR 32) and County Road P. The signal is intended to improve traffic safety and reduce the number of collisions at the intersection.

According to Megan Reese, Public Information Officer with Caltrans District 3, the intersection recorded 13 collisions between June 1, 2016, and May 31, 2021, including one fatality and eight injuries. The collision rate is approximately three times higher than the statewide average for similar intersections.

The $4.8 million project began on July 12, 2023, with the completion of project approval and environmental documentation. Design work was finalized on September 6, 2024, and the project was advertised for bid in October 2024. While construction was initially expected to begin in January, it was delayed and officially started earlier this month.

Reese stated that infrastructure work is expected to be completed by the end of May 2025. However, a delay in the delivery of electric poles will temporarily pause the project until their anticipated arrival at the end of July. Construction is scheduled to resume thereafter, with final completion targeted for the end of August.

No prolonged full closures are anticipated, Reese added. Most work will take place under traffic conditions with temporary lane closures. Any significant traffic impacts will be communicated in advance through appropriate channels.
